Interfaith Coexistence

Islam came to the Arabs and the Mission of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came at a time when revelation was interrupted after the reign of Jesus,

At that time, the Arabs were far from religiosity and manifestations, worshipping the idols they had moved from the former nations

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

All the idols which were worshiped by the people of Noah were worshiped by the Arabs later on. As for the idol Wadd, it was worshiped by the tribe of Kalb at Daumat-al-Jandal; Suwa` was the idol of (the tribe of) Hudhail; Yaghouth was worshiped by (the tribe of) Murad and then by Bani Ghutaif at Al-Jurf near Saba; Ya`uq was the idol of Hamdan, and Nasr was the idol of Himyar, the branch of Dhi-al-Kala`. The names (of the idols) formerly belonged to some pious men of the people of Noah, and when they died Satan inspired their people to (prepare and place idols at the places where they used to sit, and to call those idols by their names. The people did so, but the idols were not worshiped till those people (who initiated them) had died and the origin of the idols had become obscure, whereupon people began worshiping them.

When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) moved to the medina to build the Islamic State in it; he found a mixture of religions such as Judaism and Christianity, giving them their rights, making them their duties, and the best coexistence with them, and in this article will be presented the topic of coexistence between religions and how Islam called And keen on it, after the statement of the meaning of coexistence, and the statement of some of its conditions and its consequences.

The meaning of Interfaith coexistence

Coexistence language:
The source of coexistence, and coexistence in the language comes in the sense: living on intimacy and affection, coexistence of people: if they find in the place and time themselves, and coexistence also: a society with multiple sects, and living among them in harmony, trust and harmony, despite That they are different in terms of doctrines, religions or groups, and peaceful coexistence means an environment of mutual understanding between groups of one society away from war or violence.

(Meeting a group of people in a particular place linked by the means of living from the basic of life regardless of religion and other affiliations, each is known the right of the other without integration and fusion).

Interfaith Coexistence in Islam
The Qur’an has laid down a system of clear rules for the preservation of human societies and the dimensions of sectarian strife, and Islam has declared in its own right that all people have been created from one soul, which means that they are involved in the unity of human origin, where Allah Almighty said:

O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.

All human beings on the face of this earth share in humanity, and thus Islam guarantees them the right to live in dignity, without distinction, from the principle that a human being is self-honored, without regard to his or her religion, race, color or origin, all members of society are one family, have certain rights, and Duties

70 We have honored the Children of Adam, and carried them on land and sea, and provided them with good things, and greatly favored them over many of those We created. {17 Esraa}

The apparent difference in people’s forms, colors, races and languages is evidence of God’s greatness, ability and creativity in his creation.
22 And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the diversity of your languages and colors. In this are signs for those who know. {al-rum 30}

If there is a difference in human societies, this should be a natural phenomenon, and the category of intolerance should not be another group because it creates hostility and hatred in society and provokes sectarian strife among its members, but that difference should be a way of acquaintance, compassion and empathy in one society, striving to find common interests and benefits among them

13 O people! We created you from a male and a female, and made you races and tribes, that you may know one another. The best among you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous. Allah is All-Knowing, Well-Experienced. {49 al- hugurat}

In the previous verse, Allah Almighty pointed out that there can be no struggle between people except on the basis of piety and proximity to God-the almighty-and the extent of the application of his laws and the adherence to the Prophets ‘ divine, The best among you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous.

Those who did not belong to Islam from other religions that came from God before the advent of Islam and did not believe in God, the Quraan did not look at them by derogation, or that they are not human, and that they are not entitled to the right of Muslims;
A Muslim should not, for non-Muslims, only call them to God as a matter of advice, if they obeyed the lost, and if they refused and decided to remain on their faith, there is no compulsion in religion as long as they do not fight the religion of Allah (Islam) and fight against it.

8 As for those who have not fought against you for your religion, nor expelled you from your homes, Allah does not prohibit you from dealing with them kindly and equitably. Allah loves the equitable. {60 al-mumtahinah}
