Number and names of doors of Paradise and Hell

Since the beginning of creation and the coming of Adam to the Earth, Allah Almighty sent prophets and messengers to every nation to show them the path of guidance and righteousness through the path of delusion and disobedience, and to put down heavenly laws that were concluded by the Islamic Sharia, imposing on the servants the goodness of the world and the Hereafter, and after they had the reason They have the right to choose the option to follow or avoid Allah orders, and the righteous have promised to heaven and warn the misguided people with fire, the paradise and fire has degrees according to the work of the servant, and in this article we will mention the number of doors of paradise and fire.

The number of doors of paradise and fire:
In the Holy Qur’an and the hadiths of the prophet, there is evidence to show the number of doors of heaven and Hell, as for the doors of Paradise, it is eight doors and the Prophet (PBUH) said:

He who said:” There is no god but Allah, He is One and there is no associate with Him, that Muhammad is his servant and His messenger, that Christ is servant and the son of His slave-girl and he (Christ) His word which He communicated to Mary and is His Spirit, that Paradise is a fact and Hell is a fact,” Allah would make him (he who affirms these truths enter Paradise through any one of its eight doors which he would like.

The names of the Doors of paradise and Hell
Religious scholars quoted some of the hadiths of the Holy Prophet on the names of the doors of paradise, and they agreed on the names of four of them and quoted the names of the remaining four with some signs and gestures contained in these conversations and did not agree on the name of the other four:
the names they agreed on are the following:

  • The prayer door: which is called by the Muslim who is eager to pray and do his best to keep it on time
  • Jihad door: entered by those who were the people of jihad for the sake of Allah and care for him and be active in that by the fear of Allah.
  • The door of al-Rayan : which is entered by a Muslim who frequently fasts and cares for it and do it right.
  • Charity: is entered by a Muslim who makes his money in charity for the poor and orphans and all the doors of charity without any harm and asking for the satisfaction of Allah alone.
As for the remaining four doors of the paradise, the scholars disagreed, and Ibn Hajar went on to be one of the pillars of Hajj, and the name of the fifth door is the door of Hajj, and the sixth door is the right section based on the hadeeth about Abu Kitten, May Allah be pleased with him and who says at the end of it
O Muhammad, bring in by the right gate of Paradise those of your people who would have no account to render. They would share with the people some other door besides this door. The Prophet then said: By Him in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, verify the distance between two door leaves of the Paradise is as great as between Mecca and Hajar, or as between Mecca and Busra.

And section 7 the door of Cautious rage ( kazemen al ghaiz) and the people who forgive, and the eighth is the door of the zekr and may be the door of science, many of scholars have gone that the names of the remaining four doors of paradise are the door of repentance and the door of the Kazemen al ghaiz and who forgive for people, the door of the satisfied and the right door which were mentioned in the last hadith .

As for the seven doors of fire contained in the Holy Verse, there is no fixed text in the Qur’an or the Prophet (pbuh) in naming it, but there have been some traces of the companions, such as Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Ibn Abbas, may Allaah be pleased with them in the names of the doors of fire, which have been quoted by some of scientists:

  • an-Nar النار (“The Fire”)

  • Jaheem جحيم (“Blazing Fire”)

  • Hutamah حطمة (“That which Breaks to Pieces”)

  • Haawiyah هاوية (“The Abyss”)

  • Ladthaa لظى

  • Sa’eer سعير (“The Blaze”)

  • Saqar سقر
